I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
At last, the day had arrived. I was finally going to glide with the rare Elytra I found on the End ship.
I had placed it in my Ender Chest immediately after returning because I was afraid of losing it. Today would be the first time I actually wore it.
Until now, I had explored by running or riding a horse. From this day onward, I could travel through the sky.
Preparing the Elytra
In the previous episode, I crafted Shulker Boxes from the End city expedition.
The End was frightening, but it had given me items that could completely change how I explored.
Here was the Elytra. It looked a little like an insect’s wings. On a dark-skinned suited man, the resemblance was even stronger than I expected.
I added Unbreaking and named it Tora-san. Mending would also be useful if I could add it later.
The wings opened while I was sneaking. I was delighted, even if I looked increasingly insect-like.
The first gliding test
The Elytra did not lift me into the air by itself. I needed to jump from somewhere high and glide. Since this was my first attempt, I built only a modest dirt tower.
I jumped, opened the Elytra in the air, and began to glide. It felt wonderful. This item really did let me fly through the Minecraft world.
After the first practice run, I climbed above the clouds. A mistake from this height would mean a deadly fall, so I was nervous.
Somehow, I launched safely. Flying above the clouds felt unreal. Once I became used to it, I could imagine traveling a very long distance.
I carried a map during my walk through the sky. Filling maps and searching for new biomes from above sounded like a fine new goal.
Flying was so enjoyable that the day disappeared quickly. With the Elytra, the world suddenly felt much larger.
