Greetings.
I am a man who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
In OjiCra Season 3, I ventured into an underground mineshaft.
Rails ran through passages lined with wooden supports, while cobwebs blocked parts of the way.
It looked like a proper adventure.
Once I started walking through it, however, the mineshaft turned out to be a rather frightening place.
Finding a minecart chest was exciting.
Finding diamond ore was even more exciting.
But there was also a cave spider spawner nearby.
Based on the mineshaft expedition in OjiCra Season 3 Episode 19, this memo looks at what I found in the mineshaft and what made it so intimidating for a beginner like me.
A Mineshaft Is an Underground Structure Filled with Rails and Wooden Supports
The first things that stood out after I entered were the rails and wooden supports.
An ordinary cave is mostly stone and ore, but the mineshaft looked as though someone had already been digging there.
Rails crossed the floor.
Wooden supports stood along the sides.
Cobwebs hung from the ceiling and around the corners.
Together, they gave the place the unmistakable atmosphere of an abandoned mine.
My reaction was, "So this must be a mineshaft…"
Farther in, the passage split in several directions.
Should I continue straight ahead?
Turn right?
Or go left?
At that point, it already felt as though I might lose the way back.
Mineshafts offer plenty to explore, but they are also easy places to get lost.
I found it important to place Torches as markers, avoid pushing too far ahead, and keep thinking about the route home.
A Minecart Chest Is Exciting, but the Area Around It Is Dark
One of the things I hoped to find was a Minecart with Chest.
These can sit on the rails, and their contents may include food, ores, or enchanted books.
In Episode 19, I could see Bread, Iron, Gold, Diamond, and an enchanted book inside.
That was helpful.
Very helpful indeed.
Unfortunately, the places with useful treasure also tend to be dark.
And hostile mobs appear in dark places.
When I find a chest in a mineshaft, it is very easy to focus entirely on what is inside.
As a beginner, though, checking the surroundings first seems like the better idea.
Having something approach from behind while the chest is open would be a real problem.
The Cave Spider Spawner Was the Scariest Part of the Mineshaft
The cave spider spawner was the part that frightened me most.
It stood beyond a passage thick with cobwebs.
Cave Spiders are smaller than ordinary Spiders and can approach through narrow spaces.
Depending on the difficulty, their attacks can also inflict Poison.
That was frightening.
With my health suddenly in danger, this was no time to celebrate finding treasure.
Those red eyes were close.
It was a small creature, but it had a strong presence.
The cobwebs were not just decoration.
This really was a Cave Spider nest.
Once the fight became chaotic, it was even more alarming.
The Cave Spiders came right up to the screen, and my health began to fall.
"I will only look a little farther" suddenly turned into a fight for survival.
Around the spawner, I felt it was important not to force my way through, to place Torches, and to leave myself an escape route.
There Was Ore to Discover Deeper in the Mineshaft
The mineshaft was frightening, but it also held some wonderful discoveries.
In Episode 19, I found diamond ore beside lava.
I had seen Diamond in treasure chests before.
Seeing the ore directly in front of me felt different.
Finding it myself and mining it myself made the Diamond feel special.
There was lava immediately beside it, however.
The excitement and the danger were in the same view.
Diamond Ore needs to be mined with an Iron Pickaxe or better.
A Wooden or Stone Pickaxe will not collect it, so I needed to use the right tool.
In OjiCra, I mined it with an Iron Pickaxe.
I moved slowly and kept watching my footing.
Falling here would have been a serious problem.
I got it.
A Diamond, indeed.
The mineshaft was frightening, but discoveries like this made me want to see just a little more of it.
Danger and reward were very close together.
That was what the mineshaft felt like to me.
My Beginner’s Mineshaft Checklist
These are the things I want to remember the next time I enter a mineshaft:
- Carry plenty of Torches
- Bring food
- Prepare a sword and pickaxe
- Leave Torches or blocks as markers for the route back
- Check the surroundings before opening a minecart chest
- Be alert for a cave spider spawner in passages filled with cobwebs
- Check the ground before mining ore near lava
I cannot promise that I will remember everything.
At the very least, though, I want to remember that a mineshaft is not only a place full of treasure.

A mineshaft is an exciting place to find.
But it is also properly frightening.
Next time, I would like to explore a little more calmly.
Then again, I will probably walk straight toward the next piece of treasure I see.
