Greetings.
I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.

A little greeting from beneath the roof of the finished ferry dock.
Under my feet is a strider, a creature that walks on lava.
Today, let us look back from my first ride to a return trip across an inlet from this dock.
Last time, I built an ice boat road toward the Nether fortress.
This time, I am leaving the ice for lava.
First, let us go back to the preparations, before there was a dock here.
A saddle, and my first ride on a strider

At the town anvil, I repair my well-used pickaxe.
This time I use diamonds as the repair material, at a displayed cost of five levels.
Best to get the tools ready before working in the Nether.

Orange lava shows through a gap between the warped trees.
Farther out, striders walk across its surface.
Watching is one thing; heading out there on one makes me a little nervous.

I check the saddle in my inventory.
There is its name: Saddle.
I would like to put it on a strider and try sitting on its back.
Minecraft’s item article explains that a warped fungus on a stick lets you direct a saddled strider.
A fishing rod and warped fungus make a rather unusual piece of riding equipment.

On the day of my first ride, I saddle a strider, climb aboard, and find lava right beneath me!
It is quite a change from sitting in a boat on water.
Even with a sword in my hand, all that orange is not especially calming.

From the side, I really am sitting on its back.
One suited man balanced above those thin legs.
What a peculiar mount; for now, I would just like to get used to the ride.

Switching to the stick, I move in the direction I am facing.
The advancement “This Boat Has Legs” appears in the corner too!
On this outing, I turn back without landing on another shore.
A warped-wood roof and lanterns for a lava ferry dock
After that first ride, I set about making a place to board and get off at the shore.

Here is the finished dock.
A netherrack pier leads to a pen with gates, beneath warped-wood pillars and a slab roof.
With two lanterns hanging overhead, even this lava shore is beginning to look like a little station.
The wood for the roof comes from the warped forest behind the shore.
Red rock and teal wood make quite a Nether-like pairing.
Still, I do not want to put too much faith in a netherrack enclosure; boarding and dismounting call for care.

Still mounted, I open the western gate, head onto the lava, and look back.
A roof and lights in front of the forest make it pleasing to have somewhere to return to.
The dock has taken shape; next, I decide to go back to town for a little more preparation.
Fire Resistance, then across the southern inlet
Before setting out again from the completed dock, I prepare potions in town.

At the brewing stand, magma cream is being added to three Awkward Potions.
I start with water bottles and nether wart, then extend the Fire Resistance with redstone.
This time I prepare three eight-minute potions before heading for the dock.
Minecraft’s potion introduction also lists magma cream as the ingredient for Fire Resistance.
For an outing so close to lava, having some ready helps settle my nerves.

Back at the dock, I drink one potion under the roof.
The other two stay with me as spares.
This time I exchange my elytra for a diamond chestplate and wear a pumpkin against the Endermen.
My face is completely hidden, but yes, it is still me.
Even prepared like this, I want to watch where I put my feet.

I board at the entrance, pass through the western gate, and set out.
With the stick in hand, I head for the far shore of the southern inlet.
Walking over orange lava with the teal forest behind me still feels rather strange.

At the far shore, I check the block I will step onto and dismount onto land.
Oh, both feet are on the ground!
It is only the southern inlet this time, but standing across the lava makes the Nether feel a little more open to me.
For the return, I draw the strider over with the stick and climb aboard again.
After a brief look from this unfamiliar shore, let us return to our dock.

I bring the strider back into the pen, close the gate while still mounted, and get off at the entrance.
Part of its head and saddle are in front, with an allay that was already nearby beside me.
It is a relief to be back beneath the roof.
From simply trying a ride over lava to landing on another shore and returning.
It is only a little ferry dock, but the Nether has gained another place I look forward to using.
That is all for this time.
Greetings.
