I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
After a very difficult rematch, I defeated the Ender Dragon.
Before returning home, there was one more thing I wanted from the End: the dragon egg.
A rare egg above the portal
The egg sat alone on the small pillar above the return portal, surrounded by the obsidian towers. It is the sort of rare item that makes one want to take it home, even before knowing what it does.
Naturally, I hit it first. The egg vanished. For a moment I thought I had broken it, but it had only teleported to a nearby spot.
A torch under the egg
Simply hitting it again would only send it somewhere else. In this Minecraft PE-era world, the way to collect it was to place a torch under the block beneath it, then remove that block so the egg fell onto the torch as an item.
It worked. The egg became an item, and I finally picked it up.
It may not have a practical use, but it is a fine reminder that the dragon has truly fallen.
