I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft PE.
I was still filling maps in search of rare biomes.
Because none of them had appeared, I often landed at villages and temples along the way. Exploring these places gave me something to enjoy while the larger search continued.
During one such stop, I descended toward a village. The moment I landed, everything suddenly became dark. Before I could understand what had happened, I was dead.
This had all the signs of a total loss.
Continuing the map-filling journey
I wanted to see more of the Minecraft world, so I had been exploring farther from home with maps and an Elytra.
Rare biomes remained rare, naturally. Still, the unusual villages and temples I found along the way made the journey enjoyable.
I set out again, hoping that this trip might finally reveal something new.
### Finding Diamonds just before losing my best equipment
I flew across the map and occasionally landed to explore on foot.
There was a great deal of desert in this region, so Desert Temples appeared more often than anything truly rare. I landed at one of them to see whether its treasure chests held anything useful.
I carefully disabled the trap and reached the chests below.
There were several Diamonds inside!
I did not find Diamonds like this very often, so I left the temple in an excellent mood and resumed the map-filling flight.
Soon afterward, I noticed a village nearby and decided to land.
This was the village. I took the photograph just before touching down.
The instant I landed, I was thrown into darkness. I could not see where I was or what was happening, and then I died from the fall.
Looking at the photograph later, I noticed what seemed to be a hole in the village. I had probably landed directly in it.
The real problem was the distance. I had traveled far from home while filling maps, so I respawned back at my village with only this final screenshot as a clue.
I had been carrying the finest equipment I had ever owned, my Elytra, the newly found Diamonds, and the maps from the journey.
If I wanted to prevent a true total loss, I would have to find this distant village again. A very long search was about to begin.
