I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
Last time, I found a Sniffer egg at a warm-ocean ruin, and a baby Sniffer hatched.
Today, while I wait for that baby Sniffer to grow up, I am making a new flower bed at the botanical garden.
I hear that grown Sniffers dig ancient seeds out of the ground.
Making a flower bed while the baby Sniffer grows
When I look into the pen in the morning, the baby Sniffer still looks lively.
It looks like it will take a little longer to grow up.
East of the botanical garden, between the stone lantern and a spruce tree, I decide to make a flower bed.
I want a place ready for the ancient seeds before they appear.
I till the soil with the wooden hoe I found at the ocean ruin last time.
A water channel runs down the middle, with farmland on both sides.
I frame the bed with mossy stone bricks and place lanterns at the corners.
It seems to suit the garden’s stone lantern quite well.
The grown Sniffer digs up ancient seeds
Back at the pen, the Sniffer has reached its full adult size!
The moss on its back has become much more impressive.
Soon after growing up, it pushes its nose into the ground and digs something out.
By the fence lies a Torchflower seed.
I pick up the seed and plant it in the bed right away. A small sprout starts to show.
Minecraft’s Java Edition 1.20 release notes also explain that Sniffers dig up ancient seeds.
After digging once, the Sniffer rests for a while. The second dig brings another Torchflower seed.
On the third dig, I manage to catch it with its nose to the ground.
After that dig, I pick up a brown pod and take a closer look. It is a Pitcher Pod!
Now that I have both kinds of ancient seeds, I plant the pod in the bed too.

After a while, the Torchflower blooms!
Just like its name, the flower looks like a small flame. The newly planted pod sits across the channel.
The Pitcher Plant is still small, so I try some bone meal.
Each time I use it, the plant shoots up a little more.
It becomes a tall blue-purple flower.
Next to the Torchflower, the bed suddenly looks like an ancient garden.
The second Torchflower blooms too. The fourth dig brings another pod, so I plant it at the end of the bed.
The ancient flower bed is complete!
From a little farther away, the flower bed and the Sniffer pen sit beside the botanical garden and the castle keep.
The castle town has gained another new view.
The grown Sniffer is right behind me.
Next, I look forward to watching the Pitcher Pod at the end of the bed grow.
