I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft Bedrock Edition.
Last time, I returned after more than a year and carefully relearned how to explore a cave.
While I was away, a major update expanded the world and added new caves far below the old depths. I only read a little about them because I wanted the discoveries to feel new.
This time, I am going underground.
Rumors of new caves deep beneath the world
After the long break, I had barely remembered how to use my elytra. Even so, the previous cave trip brought back some confidence.
I went to the deepest part of an old cave but found no passage leading farther down. With nowhere obvious to go, I simply began digging.
After a while, I reached a block that looked a little like bedrock, except I could mine it.
Deepslate. A new block!
Its dark color looked excellent for building.
Farther down, another unfamiliar block appeared, this one with a slightly greenish tone.
It seemed to be tuff. Finding unknown blocks one after another was already enjoyable.
Even gold ore had a deepslate version. It looked like a building block I would gladly use as it was.
### A huge cavern filled with hostile mobs
I continued downward.
Then I saw mossy cobblestone and heard a great deal of groaning. I knew what that meant.
A monster spawner was waiting for me. What a thoughtful welcome.
Beyond the room was a cave unlike anything I remembered. It almost felt like a fortress, and the sounds of hostile mobs made it even more unsettling.
The passage opened into an enormous dark space. This had to be one of the new cave areas.
Hostile mobs kept emerging from the darkness. It was wonderfully frightening.
Cracks in the floor revealed lava below. There was no room for carelessness.
The nearly black landscape had a strange atmosphere. Building a base here might actually be interesting.
Lower down, there was even more lava. This cave offered many excellent ways to die.
I had also heard about dripstone caves. Perhaps I will find one of those someday.
