Greetings.
I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.

Last time, I opened a road to a Nether fortress, fought the Wither, and lit a beacon.

Today I am heading to warm-ocean ruins to look for a Sniffer egg.
Brushing suspicious sand feels like a proper treasure hunt.

Looking for suspicious sand at an ocean ruin

A brewing stand with three water bottles and Nether Wart

First, I prepare Water Breathing potions.
I extend them to eight minutes so I can look through the seafloor slowly.

The suited man flying above the clouds with Elytra wings open

I spread my Elytra and fly east over the sea.
Knowing that ruins wait under the water makes this trip a little more tense than usual.

A warm-ocean underwater ruin among coral

An ocean ruin appears among the coral.
Minecraft’s Java Edition 1.20 release notes explain that Sniffer eggs can appear in suspicious sand at warm-ocean ruins.

The suited man brushing suspicious sand on the seafloor

I brush the suspicious sand.
Watching the sand carefully, I wonder what will appear.

The inventory after searching the first ocean ruin

At the first ruin, I check 24 blocks of suspicious sand.
There are gold nuggets, emeralds, and two pot shards, but no egg yet.

Finding the egg at a ruin farther east

The suited man flying east beneath the sun with Elytra wings open

I travel a little farther east to another ruin.
Flying beneath the sun, I look forward to finding the next ruin.

The suited man on an eastern shore with mangroves and a camel

Mangroves stand on the eastern shore, with a camel in the distance.
After a breath, I head under the water once more.

Brushing suspicious sand at the eastern ocean ruin

At this ruin, I brush each block of suspicious sand in turn.
Each crumbling pattern makes me think, perhaps this time.

A Sniffer egg found with the Smells Interesting advancement notification

There it is!
The fourth block gives me a Sniffer egg, together with the Smells Interesting advancement notification.

The suited man holding a Sniffer egg on the eastern shore

I climb ashore with the egg in hand.
It is a small egg, but well worth the trip across the sea.

Waiting for a baby Sniffer on moss

Grass before building a Sniffer pen

Back home, I build a pen east of the botanical garden.
It feels like a good place to watch over a new companion.

A close view of a Sniffer egg with green particles

I place moss at the center of the pen and set down the egg.
Minecraft’s Java Edition 1.20 release notes say an egg takes about ten minutes on moss and about twenty minutes elsewhere.

A Sniffer egg with its first crack

After three minutes and 26 seconds, the first crack appears.
Even a still egg has a clear little change to watch for.

A second crack in a Sniffer egg in the light of dusk

Another three minutes and 32 seconds later, there is a second crack.
Even as dusk comes, I cannot leave the pen.

A newly hatched baby Sniffer

After ten minutes and 21 seconds, a baby Sniffer hatches!
The little creature starts moving right in front of me.

A baby Sniffer in its pen the next morning beside the botanical garden

The baby Sniffer climbs over the lower fence on the slope once and gets outside.
After I raise the fence, I see it safely inside the pen the next morning.

The suited man standing by the pen with a baby Sniffer behind him

The baby Sniffer is behind me now.
When it grows up, I would like to watch what it finds for the botanical garden.

That is all for this time.
Greetings.
