Greetings.
I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.

To cure a zombie villager, give it Weakness, use an ordinary golden apple on it, then wait a few minutes. Getting the order right matters just as much as bringing the apple.

This is the area above the igloo on the morning after the cure. The guide separates Minecraft’s official explanation from my Java Edition 1.21.11 basement example.

Bring Weakness and an ordinary golden apple

The chest contains a golden apple. For curing, choose the ordinary item, rather than an enchanted golden apple. Reading the item name is a useful little check before heading in.

The other item in this example is a Splash Potion of Weakness, found in the basement brewing stand. This picture shows a finished potion; it is not a brewing walkthrough.

Minecraft’s official golden apple article describes weakening the zombie villager first, then using an unenchanted golden apple. Before starting, prepare an enclosure and a working position that help you keep track of the mob while avoiding its attacks.

Apply Weakness, use the apple on the mob, and wait

Throw the splash potion so its effect reaches the zombie villager. The icon at the top right of this picture belongs to me. An effect on the player does not, by itself, confirm an effect on the target.

Next, hold the ordinary golden apple and use it on the zombie villager. Check that you are targeting the mob rather than eating the apple yourself. If a fence or iron bars obstruct the interaction, reconsider your working position; seeing the target does not guarantee that an interaction reaches it.

Swirling particles around the zombie villager and an empty hotbar slot where the golden apple was

In this example, I use the apple after applying Weakness. The photograph shows particles and the now-empty apple slot. Now comes the patient part: watching and waiting.

A few minutes later, the villager is back. That familiar face is a reassuring sight! This villager is unemployed after the cure; curing does not establish that it has a particular profession.

If curing does not start, check the target, effect and apple

Check that the target is a zombie villager, that Weakness reaches it, and that the apple is the ordinary golden apple. Eating the apple yourself is not the curing interaction. Once treatment starts, allow time for the change instead of expecting an immediate result.

QCan I turn an ordinary zombie into a villager?
AThis guide treats zombie villagers. It is not a curing method for ordinary zombies.
QShould I use an enchanted golden apple?
AThe official curing instructions specify an ordinary, unenchanted golden apple. Check the item name.
QDoes my own Weakness icon prove the target is affected?
ANo. The player’s icon does not show the zombie villager’s effects. Check how you apply the potion to the target.
QExactly how many seconds does curing take?
AThe official description and this example use a few minutes. Do not treat one exact duration as a guarantee.

The full trip is in Episode 107: curing a zombie villager in an igloo basement. I find it easiest to take this one step at a time: Weakness, apple, then a little patience.

That is all for this time.
Greetings.
