The sky creeper farm was producing plenty of gunpowder.
When gunpowder and paper are combined, they become firework rockets—but now I was running short of paper.
I decided to build an automatic sugar cane farm beside the creeper farm.
The plan was to collect sugar cane while I waited for gunpowder.
My first automatic sugar cane farm refuses to work
After connecting the creeper farm to the village through the Nether, I tried a small sugar cane design that I found while researching.
It did not work.
Apparently, the design depended on a bug.
Whenever I look at a contraption and wonder, “How is this even working?”, I should probably avoid building it.
I already know that, yet I make the same mistake again after enough time passes.
### Building the familiar automatic sugar cane farm instead
I already had a working sugar cane farm in the village, so I returned to the design that I understood.
I built the same system beside the sky farm.
Observers watched the sugar cane, and pistons harvested it when it grew.
Now I could collect both gunpowder and paper simply by waiting.
At last, making firework rockets had become easy, and future elytra adventures would be much more comfortable.
