I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
Last time, I used the ocean monument’s structure to activate a conduit inside it.
This time, I head farther into the monument where that conduit is still running.
I face elder guardians, search for treasure, and finally make my way back to the castle town.
Deeper into the monument from the conduit room
The conduit I placed last time is still open and running inside the monument.
Guardians swim around it, quickly reminding me that this remains a dangerous place.
This photograph comes from partway through today’s exploration.
Some of the loot I collect later is already visible in the hotbar, so this is not the moment before the raid begins.
As I move through the monument, an elder guardian suddenly fills my view!
That is close. Far too close…
Its huge body blocks the way, but I have come too far to turn around now.
I raise my sword and face it head-on.
When I swing my sword, thorn-like spikes show on the elder guardian’s body.
It takes a serious bite out of my health, but I keep attacking and bring down the first one!
There is not much room to breathe on this screen, but the suited man is still alive.
I make it all the way through this adventure without dying once.
In a room on the west side, several beams stretch toward me at once.
The elder guardian is hardly the only thing I need to watch here…
I use the narrow passages and changes in height as I press farther inside.
The more I fight, the more wear I can see on both my sword and armor.
This is the west-wing room just after my fight with the second elder guardian.
The creature itself is outside the frame, but the battle ends here.
I fight the two elder guardians I am able to find this time and defeat them both.
I search the monument afterward, but I cannot find another one.
Finding gold blocks and a sponge room!
I dig through the monument and collect 8 gold blocks!
The photograph does not show the gold sitting in the room, but the stack of 8 in my hotbar is today’s result.
Finding gold in this dark monument feels a little different from finding ordinary ore.
Reaching this far inside has been worth the trouble.
Farther on, I discover a room packed with yellow blocks.
There it is—a sponge room!
The blocks lined up underwater are wet sponges.
Seeing so many together is one of those sights that belongs to an ocean monument.
With a wet sponge in hand, I collect the floating drops one by one.
They drift in the water, so I circle the room to make sure none escape me.
Watching the yellow blocks gather in my inventory is wonderfully satisfying.
This is a very different sort of treasure from opening a chest.
By the time I finish circling the room, I have 14 wet sponges.
Together with the 8 gold blocks, they are loot I very much want to bring home safely.
I also collect 8 prismarine bricks and 2 dark prismarine blocks this time.
The results of exploring the monument gradually add up in my inventory.
Leaving the still-dangerous monument for home
When I return to the conduit, several guardians have gathered nearby.
Defeating the elder guardians has not made the entire monument safe.
The conduit running close by is reassuring, but another beam can still come flying at any moment.
Now that I have the loot, it seems wiser not to get greedy.
From a little farther away, the room and the conduit’s position are easier to see.
This small device has kept running here throughout the expedition.
I cannot say that a conduit makes an ocean monument easy, but I am pleased that last episode’s work leads directly into this exploration.
Ordinary guardians are still swimming around the place.
And then, on a rainy night, I return to the castle town!
Even beneath the dark sky, the 8 gold blocks in my hotbar are easy to see.
Two elder guardians, 8 gold blocks, and 14 wet sponges.
The ocean monument is frightening, but this time I bring the loot home without losing a single life.
Next, I would like to think about how to use this gold and these sponges in the castle town.
The battle in the monument is over, and it is time to return to life in town.
