I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
In Episode 78, I found Elytra on an End Ship.
This time, I am flying with Elytra to the red badlands of the Mesa I noticed in Episode 76.
I want to gather terracotta from its colored layers, the sort of blocks that would be lovely to look at in the castle town.
Flying to the Red Plateau
As I leave the desert and rise into the sky, the wings open wide.
The view is completely different from a journey on foot.
Looking down, I can see white and yellow lines across the red-brown ground.
This is the Mesa I noticed in Episode 76!
As the plateau gets closer, the layers of color become clearer and clearer.
I slow down and head toward the terracotta at my feet.
I reach the plateau and begin mining at an exposed layer.
The colored bands, so different from dirt or stone, gradually collect in my hands with each swing of the pickaxe.
I now have six types: uncolored, orange, yellow, red, light gray, and white.
There is even a camel peeking in from the side, like an unexpected companion on this gathering trip.
With the colored layers behind me, I take a picture holding the terracotta I gathered.
Even a short walk across this plateau changes the colors beneath my feet.
A Morning on the Mesa and the Flight Home to the Forward Base
After spending the night on the plateau, the sky grows bright.
In the morning light, the Mesa looks a little softer in color than it did the day before.
With the terracotta in my inventory, it is time for the flight home.
The red plateau, river, and desert move beneath me.
Beyond the sea, the deep green of the trees comes into view.
From the sky, the journey to the forward base feels much wider than it does on the ground.
I am near the desert now.
Before landing, I slow down a little.
Touching down on the sand finally makes me feel that the flight is nearing its end.
Once I reach the forward base, this flight will be complete.
I bring all six terracotta types to the forward base.
Looking at the row of colors in my hotbar, I can already imagine what I might make next.
Next time, I will head to the castle town and see what new work awaits.
