I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
I dry wet sponges brought back from an ocean monument in a furnace.
Then I place one in a small tank and watch the water disappear.
This guide separates official Minecraft Java information from what we observed in OjiCra.
Where can you find sponges?
Minecraft’s official guide says an ocean monument can generate a sponge room.
In Episode 65, I found one inside an ocean monument.
I brought home fourteen wet sponges on that trip.
A wet sponge does not absorb water again, so I first return it to its dry state.
Drying a wet sponge in a furnace
Put a wet sponge in the top slot of a furnace, add fuel, and light it.
In this OjiCra session, I use coal.
Dry sponges appear in the output slot.
In this session, all fourteen wet sponges dry and become usable again.
Minecraft also officially describes a Java Edition method that dries a wet sponge by placing it in the Nether.
I do not demonstrate that method here, so this article does not compare its speed or fuel use with the furnace method.
Using a sponge to remove water
Place a dry sponge where you want to remove water.
Minecraft’s official sponge guide says it can absorb up to 65 water blocks, but the result depends on the placement and the water around it.
For this OjiCra test, I place one dry sponge in a full 3×3×1 tank.
The water in its nine spaces disappears, and the sponge becomes wet.
After I pick it up, the inventory shows a wet sponge.
For a larger place, I would divide the work into sections, then place, collect, and dry sponges again.
The nine spaces are one OjiCra observation, not a promise that one sponge can drain an ocean or a large build.
What to check when a sponge does not absorb water
First, make sure you are holding a dry sponge.
If it has already become wet or is too far from the water, it will not give the result you expect.
- How many water blocks can one sponge absorb?
- Minecraft’s official sponge guide says up to 65 water blocks. The result depends on the placement and water state, so do not treat 65 as a guaranteed result.
- How do I dry a wet sponge?
- Use a furnace with fuel. In this session, I use coal and dry fourteen wet sponges.
- Does a wet sponge dry in the Nether?
- Minecraft officially introduced that method for Java Edition. I do not test it in this article.
- Can I use a sponge again?
- Yes. Dry a wet sponge, then use it for water removal again. I test one dry sponge in the small tank.
- Does every ocean monument have a sponge room?
- Minecraft says a sponge room can generate in an ocean monument. It does not say every monument must have one.
