Greetings.
I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.

I have had my eye on that three-pronged weapon the Drowned carry.
Today I am heading to the river port to look for a Trident.

A man in diamond armor with a sword and shield on the stone landing at the river port

I walk southwest from town to the river port.
The stone landing and its lantern posts look familiar in the daylight.
This is where I will wait for nightfall.

Looking for a Trident in the River and at the Ocean Ruins

A Drowned holding a Trident upright in a boat beside the river landing at night

A Drowned is sitting in a boat out on the water.
Is that a Trident it is holding upright?
I draw my bow and fight back, then finish it off once it leaves the boat.
No Trident, though.

Dark blue water west of the stone landing in daylight

West of the landing, the water turns a much darker blue.
It looks quiet from the bank. Diving down there after something is a rather different prospect.

A Drowned riding a Zombie Nautilus among underwater plants, with potion icons at the top right

Near the ocean ruins, I spot another Drowned with a Trident.
It is riding a Zombie Nautilus!
The Java Edition 1.21.11 release notes describe this pairing, but it still gives me a start when it appears between the plants.

I defeat this rider too, and again there is no Trident.
It is a little hard to give up when I can see one right there in its hands.

A pale blue potion bottle held on the river landing in daylight

Back in town, I brew a longer-lasting Potion of Water Breathing.
I take a bottle down to the landing and drink it before trying the deep pool west of the port.

A distant Drowned on the water between two lantern posts before dawn

Before dawn, I spot another Trident holder in the distance between the lantern posts.
I dive in and get close to finishing the fight, but other Drowned surround me and my health is running low.
Time to back out.

I have been chasing Trident holders at the river port and the ocean ruins.
After all that fighting, I still have nothing to show for it.

A Trident at Last, and a Book of Mending

The next morning, I take on another Drowned beneath the landing.
I fight with sword and bow, and this time I finish the fight.

A Trident and rotten flesh floating beside a wooden pillar below the landing

I glance beside the pillar, and there is a Trident floating in the water!
From above, I can see the three prongs beside a piece of rotten flesh.

A low view across the water toward a floating Trident and rotten flesh

Closer to the water, I can make out the Trident properly.
There it is, bobbing on the surface. I swim over and pick it up.
At last, I have a Trident.

An unenchanted Trident held above a dirt path through town

Back in town, I take another look at the Trident.
It is badly worn, with very little durability left.
I want to throw it, of course, but I am rather more worried about breaking it.

A man in diamond armor holding a Trident in front of a town house

I stop for a picture outside one of the town houses with the Trident in hand.
It looks quite different from the sword I usually carry.
If I want to keep it around, I had better get Mending onto it first.

Librarians holding emeralds in the trading hall, with paper held in the foreground

This is where the paper from last time’s paper workshop comes in.
At the trading hall, the librarians give me one emerald per 24 sheets of paper.
I make that trade 22 times: 528 sheets for 22 emeralds.

A librarian trade with 22 emeralds and a book offered for an enchanted book

I offer the librarian those 22 emeralds and one book.
An enchanted book appears in the result slot.

The Mending tooltip on the enchanted book in the inventory

I check the book I have bought, and the tooltip says Mending.
It is rather nice to find another use for all that paper.

An unenchanted Trident held in front of an anvil and bookshelves

I bring the book and Trident to the anvil in the room with the bookshelves.
The Trident in my hand has yet to take on an enchantment glint.

An anvil preview with Mending on the resulting Trident

I put the Trident in the left slot of the anvil and the Mending book next to it.
When I hover over the result, there is Mending on the Trident.

The anvil result showing an enchantment cost of two levels

The anvil asks for two levels.
I take the result, and my level goes from 26 to 24.
Now I have a Trident with Mending.

A Trident with a purple enchantment glint held in the bookshelf room

The Trident has a faint purple glint when I hold it again.
That is the anvil work done.

Trying a Trident with Loyalty III at the River Port

Back at the river port, I try throwing a Trident with Loyalty III.

A man in diamond armor raising a Trident overhead at the river port

On the landing, I raise the Trident over my head.
I aim for the water in front of me.

A small Trident in flight above the water beyond the stone landing

I let it go and catch sight of the small Trident flying out beyond the landing.
My eyes follow it all the way to the water.

A splash in the water beyond the river landing

Splash!
A little spray rises where it lands.
Now, will it come back?

The thrown Trident rising from the water on its way back toward the landing

Oh, here it comes!
The official Minecraft article about Tridents describes how Loyalty brings a thrown Trident back.
I throw it three times at the river port, and it returns to my hand each time.

After all that searching, I think I will take good care of this one.
If I go back into that deep pool, I had better remember the Water Breathing potion.

That is all for this time.
Greetings.
