Greetings.
I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.

During OjiCra Season 3, I entered a trial chamber for the first time while wearing full netherite armor.

It was a large underground structure built mainly from copper and tuff. Inside were trial spawners that produced waves of enemies and vaults opened with keys. I also experienced the more dangerous ominous trials.

This memo is based on Episodes 29 and 30. It records the differences I encountered between regular and ominous trials, the two kinds of keys and vaults, and the preparation that proved useful.

What is a trial chamber?

A trial chamber is a large underground Overworld structure built mainly from copper and tuff.

A trial chamber of copper and tuff appearing beyond a newly dug tunnel

In our world, I found one at the end of a long tunnel. Its corridors and rooms contained trial spawners, and approaching one began a battle against waves of enemies.

After surviving a trial, the spawner released rewards such as food or potions. A trial key could also appear. The basic flow I experienced was:

1. Find a trial chamber.
2. Approach a trial spawner.
3. Fight the waves of enemies.
4. Check the rewards it releases.
5. If a key appears, use it on the matching vault.

A key did not appear after every trial in our attempts, so I learned not to assume that finishing one battle would always let me open a vault immediately.

Fighting Breeze and spiders in regular trials

In Episode 29, I met a Breeze soon after entering the chamber.

Facing a jumping Breeze with a sword and shield inside the trial chamber

The Breeze kept changing its distance and used wind charges that pushed me back. I held my shield, moved toward the walls, and looked for places where the wind could not easily knock me away.

I next approached a trial spawner that produced spiders.

The fight did not end after defeating one enemy. As it continued, my food, arrows, shield, and armor durability gradually ran down. I used three golden apples and many arrows. Even full netherite armor did not make the trial effortless.

Trial keys and regular vaults

A regular trial can produce a trial key, which is used on a regular vault.

In Episode 29, I used the key and opened the vault. I received one Bolt armor trim smithing template, three wind charges, and one diamond chestplate.

Regular vault rewards and separately gathered items stored in a village chest

The six Breeze rods in the same chest came from fighting Breezes, while the nine diamonds were mined while digging the tunnel. They were not vault rewards. Keeping those sources separate made the results easier to understand.

Beginning an ominous trial with an ominous bottle

An ominous bottle is used when preparing for the more dangerous kind of trial.

Drinking it gave me the Bad Omen effect. When I approached a trial spawner, that changed to Trial Omen and began an ominous trial. I waited until my equipment, food, and escape route were ready before drinking it.

The spawner changed to a pale blue flame when the ominous trial began.

In Episode 30, skeletons with bows appeared and arrows flew across the room.

I blocked with the shield, moved behind walls, and attacked with my sword when an opening appeared. The fight felt more dangerous than the regular trials, so I did not hesitate to use my recovery items.

Do not confuse the two keys and vaults

The trial chamber has separate regular and ominous combinations:

  • Regular trial: trial key to regular vault
  • Ominous trial: ominous trial key to ominous vault

A regular trial key cannot open an ominous vault. When I was unsure, I checked the vault’s appearance and the key in my hand before using it.

A key may not appear after finishing a trial

In Episode 30, I fought through an ominous trial but could not find an ominous trial key afterward.

Looking at a closed ominous vault without an ominous trial key

The vault was in front of me, but I could not open it without the matching key. I checked the nearby rewards carefully, then returned to the village rather than forcing another attempt without preparation.

This is what happened in our attempt. I did not treat the missing key as proof that the chamber was broken.

The heavy core and mace were still missing

A mace is crafted from a Breeze rod and a heavy core. I brought six Breeze rods home from Episode 29.

However, the heavy core can be obtained from an ominous vault. Because I did not find the ominous trial key in Episode 30, I could not open that vault. At this point in the story, I had neither a heavy core nor a mace.

Preparation that helped in our attempts

  • Sword for enemies that came within reach
  • Bow and plenty of arrows for distant targets
  • Shield for skeleton arrows, while still watching the floor and nearby walls
  • Golden apples and food for long battles
  • Torches for marking corridors and the route home
  • Building blocks for steps and safer positions
  • Free inventory space for keys and rewards

Strong equipment alone did not remove the danger of knockback, drops, and attacks from several directions. Looking for walls and corridors that could provide cover before approaching a spawner helped me stay calmer.

What I learned from regular and ominous trials

A trial chamber was not simply a place to search for chests. I had to fight the enemies from trial spawners, check whether a key appeared, and then find the matching vault. Ominous trials required even more preparation.

In Episode 30, the missing ominous key stopped my progress. It was disappointing, but I could not claim an item that I had not obtained. My next goal was to challenge the ominous trial again and finally open the ominous vault.
