Greetings.
I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.

Wolf Armor protects a wolf while you explore together and face hostile mobs.

It is made from Armadillo Scutes.
The same scutes are also used when the armor needs to be repaired.

This article separates the mechanics described in official Minecraft information from the crafting, equipping, durability, and repair results we observed in Java Edition 1.21.11.

You can read the search for armadillos and scutes in OjiCra Season 3 Episode 38 (Japanese) and the night forest trip in Episode 40 (Japanese).

Craft Wolf Armor with Six Armadillo Scutes

In our Java Edition 1.21.11 session, we gathered six Armadillo Scutes to craft Wolf Armor.

Arranging the scutes in a crafting table produced one piece of Wolf Armor.

The official Minecraft: Java Edition 1.20.5 release notes also explain that Armadillo Scutes can be used to craft Wolf Armor.

Equip Wolf Armor on a Tamed Adult Wolf

Hold the completed armor and use it on a tamed adult wolf to equip it.

When I used it on our tamed wolf, the red armor covered the wolf’s body.

Official information says that Wolf Armor can only be equipped on a tamed adult wolf, and only the wolf’s owner can equip, repair, or remove it.

Use shears on the armored wolf when you need to remove the armor.

Wolf Armor Loses Durability When It Takes Damage

Wolf Armor protects the wolf from most damage sources until its durability is depleted and it breaks.

In our night forest observation against zombies and skeletons, the armor lost durability while the wolf remained at 40 health.

The Wolf Armor had 64 durability in our Java Edition 1.21.11 measurement.
After the fight, I removed it with shears and opened the inventory. Its durability had fallen to 33, with the durability bar around halfway down.

Official information says the armor shows signs of damage as its durability falls, but we could not clearly confirm a visual change in this environment.
This article therefore uses the durability bar visible in the normal inventory screen.

Repair Equipped Wolf Armor with Armadillo Scutes

After checking the removed armor’s durability, I equipped it on the wolf again.

I then used Armadillo Scutes on the wolf while the armor was equipped to repair it.

This image shows the scute being held for the repair.
It is not presented as the exact instant of the repair action.

In our measurement, one Armadillo Scute restored 8 durability.
Using four scutes brought the armor from 33 durability back to the full 64.

The values of 64 durability and 8 restored per scute are measurements from our Java Edition 1.21.11 session.

The official release notes explain that using Armadillo Scutes on Wolf Armor while it is equipped on the wolf repairs it.

Summary

We crafted Wolf Armor with six Armadillo Scutes.

It can be equipped on a tamed adult wolf and removed with shears.

To repair damaged armor, equip it on the wolf again and use Armadillo Scutes on the equipped armor.

In our Java Edition 1.21.11 measurement, the armor had 64 durability and each scute restored 8.
