Greetings.
I am a man in a suit who has fallen into the world of Minecraft.
After bringing Blaze Rods home from a Nether Fortress, the next place I visited was a Bastion Remnant.
It was a huge, crumbling structure built from Blackstone.
Piglins were waiting inside.
There were also Piglin Brutes carrying golden axes.
And one chest contained a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template.
I thought wearing gold armor would keep me safe, but it did not work against every opponent.
This memo organizes what I found and what made me cautious while exploring the Bastion Remnant in OjiCra Season 3 Episode 26.
The article is based on my experience in Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.11, together with official information and Minecraft Wiki pages checked on July 12, 2026.
What We Found in This Bastion Remnant
These are the things I actually confirmed during this visit:
- A ruined structure built mainly from Blackstone
- Regular Piglins
- Piglin Brutes carrying golden axes
- Hoglins
- Blocks of Gold
- A Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template and Ancient Debris in a chest
- Bartering with a Piglin using Gold Ingots
Bastion Remnants have several structure types, so their layouts and loot are not always the same.
This article focuses on what I found in the Hoglin Stables variant that I entered.
A Huge Structure Built from Blackstone
Beyond a Soul Sand Valley, I saw a dark wall in the distance.

Nether Fortresses stand out because of their Nether Brick bridges and corridors.
A Bastion Remnant, on the other hand, is a heavy, crumbling structure built mainly from Blackstone.
Both are large structures in the Nether, but they are different places.
Minecraft Wiki describes four Bastion Remnant variants: Bridges, Hoglin Stables, Housing Units, and Treasure Rooms.
The one I entered was a Hoglin Stables variant.
Its interior was cramped and full of steps and holes. Even with a Potion of Night Vision, I had to move carefully.
Gold Armor Helps with Piglins, but Not Piglin Brutes
Before entering the bastion, I replaced my diamond helmet with a golden helmet.

Regular adult Piglins do not attack a player wearing at least one piece of gold armor unless the player does something that makes them hostile.
When I approached in a golden helmet, the Piglins watched me but did not attack.

They were close.
Very close.
But they did not swing their swords.
That made me feel a little safer.
Gold armor, however, does not solve every problem.
Piglin Brutes are different.

The Piglin Brute with a golden axe attacked even though I was wearing a golden helmet.
Minecraft Wiki also describes Piglin Brutes as hostile mobs that are not distracted by gold and attack players they see.
My health dropped to four hearts.
I had assumed the golden helmet would be enough.
This old man was mistaken. (tears)
Regular Piglins and Piglin Brutes may look similar, but they require different responses.
Even while wearing gold, opening a chest or breaking a Block of Gold near Piglins can make them hostile.
Gold armor does not make everything inside a bastion safe.
I Tried Bartering with a Gold Ingot
You can barter with a regular Piglin by giving it a Gold Ingot.

After receiving the ingot, the Piglin holds it and examines it for a while.
It then throws an item back in exchange.
This time, I gave a Gold Ingot to a Piglin near the bastion and watched the bartering action.
The returned item is not always the same.
For that reason, I will not claim that one particular item is guaranteed.
You hand over the gold and wait to see what comes back.
It feels like a slightly mysterious kind of shopping. (laughs)
Piglin Brutes do not barter.
Showing them a Gold Ingot does not make them safe.
What We Found in a Bastion Chest
I opened a large chest inside the bastion.

The main items I actually found were:
- A Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template
- Ancient Debris
- Blocks of Gold
There was a Netherite Upgrade Smithing Template!

The template is used when upgrading diamond equipment and tools to Netherite.
Upgrading one item uses one template and one Netherite Ingot.
The template is consumed when used.
You can duplicate it by crafting one template with seven Diamonds and one Netherrack, producing two templates.
Because the original is used as an ingredient, one duplication effectively adds one extra template.
The exact chance of finding one differs by bastion variant and chest type.
Rather than expanding this into a general claim, I want to preserve the fact that one came from the chest I actually opened.
The chest also contained Ancient Debris.
That discovery led to the search for Ancient Debris with bed explosions in Episode 27.
A template alone is not enough to complete Netherite equipment.
I still needed to collect Ancient Debris and turn it into Netherite Scrap and then Netherite Ingots.
Watch Out for Hoglins and Blocks of Gold
This was a Hoglin Stables variant, so Hoglins were present as well.
One was still visible farther inside as I headed back toward the return portal.

Hoglins are large and can knock you back when they get close.
With so many ledges and holes in a bastion, I needed to watch my footing as well as the attacks.
Bastions also contain Blocks of Gold and chests.
Opening a chest or breaking a Block of Gold near Piglins can make them hostile, even when you are wearing gold armor.
Gold equipment does not give permission to do anything you like.
This old man tends to stop looking around when treasure appears.
That is worth remembering.
Things to Watch Out for in a Bastion Remnant
These were the most important cautions from this visit:
- Look for it as a structure separate from a Nether Fortress
- Bring at least one piece of gold armor for regular Piglins
- Gold armor does not work on Piglin Brutes
- Piglin Brutes do not barter
- Bastion interiors contain many ledges, holes, and dark spaces
- Watch your footing where Hoglins can knock you back
- Pay attention to nearby Piglins before opening chests or breaking Blocks of Gold
- Do not relax until the loot is safely home
I became too confident because of the golden helmet.
It did nothing against the brute.
Still, finding the template after making it through those dangers made me genuinely happy.
I finally returned to the village warehouse and stored it in the chest for Nether materials.

The template.
Ancient Debris.
Blaze Rods and Nether Wart.
Little by little, I was getting closer to Netherite equipment.
Next, I needed to find out whether I could really upgrade my gear with the materials I had gathered.
This old man had found another job to do.
Before entering a bastion, I found it helpful to prepare at least one piece of gold armor, enough food, a shield, a bow, and nonflammable blocks for footholds.
However, these supplies do not prevent a Piglin Brute from attacking or stop Piglins from becoming hostile when a chest is opened.
